Accounting & Analytics Lead
The Accounting & Analytics Lead will have the following responsibilities.
The initial responsibilities of the Accounting and Analytics Lead will be learning and gaining experience with the process of preparing Eastern Mutual month-end data. It requires inputting data to and extracting data from the general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable software. It will include preparation of quarterly and annual statements using commercially available software. Reports are extracted from various systems to report on Eastern Mutual underwriting, claims, and investment results. The Accounting & Analytics Lead will perform regular activities to update data in the general ledger software and create reports for management to analyze and evaluate company results.
The employee will be expected to become familiar with Eastern Mutual procedures interacting with numerous systems, develop knowledge of the data reporting system, and learn to modify and create reports. Eastern Mutual processes are heavily dependent on manipulating and analyzing data using Excel spreadsheets. Expertise with Microsoft Excel functionality, including pivot charts, is essential.
The selected candidate will be responsible for Eastern Mutual accounting processes and procedures. The following is a partial list of these activities:
• Monitor bank activity, cash balances, and daily journal entries
• Analyze and balance monthly, quarterly, and annual accruals
• Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
• File quarterly and annual reports with DFS, NAIC, and other third parties
The candidate will be expected to maintain awareness of software releases from vendors and coordinate software updates with the Eastern Mutual technical support team, as needed. The primary accounting software systems used by Eastern are Freedom and Quickbooks.
This is an exempt position. The employee will be provided training and instruction to effectively meet these responsibilities. Responsibilities will be added, as initial activities are mastered. Advancement opportunities into company management positions may be possible in the future, based on the employee’s interests, abilities, and results.
The ideal candidate will have a four-year degree in accounting, or a related field, and have experience with accounting processes and systems. Experience in the insurance business and knowledge of statutory accounting principles will be beneficial.
The candidate must have strong computer and data analysis skills. Advanced Excel experience is required, including a working knowledge of pivot tables. The employee will be expected to work with the company’s software systems to extract data and analyze business results.
The candidate must be comfortable working in a small company environment in a rural setting. The Eastern Mutual office is in southern Albany County in the town of South Westerlo (Greenville). It is approximately 25 miles south of the city of Albany.
